Roanoke, VA — Four tournaments, four winners, with one tournament to go, has been the trend at the 2009 Butterfly/ East Gate Open Series. The final of the series is set for March 14th.

Raleigh players, Jim McQueen, Chris O’Brian, and Ly Lee all had victories in the first three tournaments, but got spanked by 17 year old German exchange student Fabian Schlenburg, in the fourth tournament February 7th. Schlenburg, a third level league player in Germany crushing forehand loop and backhand smash, was no match for the North Carolina stars. Schlenburg came out of the tournament rated a low 2124 but really is about 2400.

Raleigh’s Vince Green won Class B on February 7th. Class B point leader Sam Berry of Staunton was second.

McQueen and Jerry Orlando won the U3600 doubles.

Rookie Austin Shrewsburg won the U1400 unsanctioned event on Friday night February 6th Shrewsburg also teamed with Danny Webb to win the doubles.

The tournament point fund has $350.00 and will be paid out March 14th. McQueen leads the Class A division points and just needs to show up and play to take home the Championship. O’Brian is second in series points. The series has raised $1725.00 for the East Gate Church of the Nazarene building fund where the tournaments are held.

A U1400 unsanctioned event is going to be held on Friday night March 13th starting at 7PM.
