2009 Indiana State Championship

Hosted by the Table Tennis Club of Indianapolis, and sponsored by Butterfly and Accufast Title Search Services, the Indiana State Championship was held the weekend of April 18th and 19th. Approximately sixty players competed in fourteen events on Butterfly Centrefold 25 Sky tables for almost $1,500 in cash prizes and awards.
U-2250 Runner-Up: Daniel Seemiller, Jr.
Top seed in the tournament was former U.S. National Junior Team member Joey Cochran, who entered the competition as two-time defending Indiana State Champion and current U.S. National Under 22 Mens Champion. Other notable entries included Richard Hicks (USATT Hall of Fame Member and 31-time Indiana State Champion), Mark Artman (2004 Indiana State Champion), Daniel Seemiller, Jr. (2008 U.S. National Junior Team member), and Stephen Clyde (2008 Indiana Open Champion and top-rated Junior in the Midwest).
U-2000 & U-1875 Winner: Andre Khailo
The two top seeds advanced to the finals in both the Open and U2250 events. In winning the Over 40s, Mark Artman successfully defended his title from a year earlier, and Stephen Clyde won his first State Junior title.

Very few upsets were recorded across the tournament, the most surprising of which was turned in by 939-rated local Junior, John Sencaj, who defeated the top-seeded player in the event, and advanced from his round robin to the semi finals of the U1775s.
