Zhang Peifeng Secures Gold to Complete Chinese Clean Sweep in Chengdu

Unbeaten in the team event earlier in the week but beaten by Korea’s Jang Woo Jin in the group stage of the Boys’ Singles competition; Zheng Peifeng brought matters to a conclusion at the Chengdu Junior and Cadet Open on Sunday June 13, 2010, by winning is first ever ITTF Junior Boys’ Singles crown.

Zhang Peifeng was very much the player of the whole tournament, continuing his team form into the singles event.

He beat the top two seeds, both from Japan at the concluding steps.

At the semi-final stage he accounted for Asuka Machi, the no.2 seed, in six games before recovering from an opening game deficit to beat Masaki Yoshida, the no.1 seed in five games in the final.

Cadet Boys’ Singles
’Singles competition and there was also success in the Cadet Boys’ Singles event, with Kong Lingxuan overcoming Korea’s Kim Minho in the semi-finals, before defeating compatriot, Xu Chenhao in the final.

At the semi-final stage Xu Chenhao had beaten Cai Wei, also from China.

Cadet Boys’ Doubles
Defeat for Cai Wei in the Cadet Boys’ Singles final but not in the Cadet Boys’ Doubles final where, partnering Lai Jiaxin, he clinched the top prize.

On this occasion Kong Lingxuan had to settle for silver in partnership with Xu Chenhao, the latter pair having defeated Korea’s Kim Minho and Lim Junghoon in the semi-finals, while at the same stage Cai Wei and Lai Jiaxin accounted for Japan’s Yuto Higashi and Asuka Sakai.

Disappointment at Final Hurdle
Semi-final sadness for Japan in the Cadet Boys’ Doubles event; while in the Junior Boys’ Doubles it was disappointment at the final hurdle.

Yuki Hirano and Masaki Yoshida overcame China’s Zhang Cheng and Zhou Kai by the very narrowest of margins in the deciding fifth game before suffering in the final against Liang Yonghui and Liu Yongshguai who, like the Japanese pairing had been stretched the breaking point in the semi-finals.

Close Semi-Final Contests
The Japanese pair won their semi-final duel 12-10 in the deciding fifth game, Liang Yonghui and Liu Yongshguai made life even more tense for their supporters.

They beat Chinese Taipei’s Hung Tzu-Hsiang and Lee Chia-Shenmg 16-14 in the crucial fifth game!
