Doubles at Latin American Junior and Cadet Championships

Similarly, in the team events at the Argentina Junior and Cadet Open in the same city, Marcelo Aguirre and Carolina Kumahara were the star performers.
Both remained unbeaten as the guided their outfits to gold in the respective Junior Boys’ and Junior Girls’ Team events.
On Thursday June 24, 2010, in the ensuing doubles events, they were the main attraction.
Same Combination
In harness with the players with whom they had won the top prize in the team events one day earlier, they reserved their places on the top step of the medal podium.
Marcelo Aguirre partnered Axel Gavilan to Junior Boys’ Doubles gold, while Carolina Kumahara joined forces with Katia Kawai to ensure success.
Final Round Successes
Seeded no.1, Marcelo Aguirre and Axel Gavilan recorded a semi-final success against Chile’s Matias Contreras and Felipe Olivares, before overcoming the partnership of Hong Kong’s Chiu Chung Hei and Venezuela’s Kleiver Sanchez in the final; the latter pair having caused an upset one round earlier by beating Brazilian second seeds, Danilo Toma and Gustavo Souza.
At no stage were the Paraguayans extended the full five games distance, four games wins (matches being best of five games) were the semi-final and final outcomes.
Even More Impressive
Impressive but the Brazilian girls were even more impressive; they recorded straight games victories on each visit to the table overcoming Chile’s Judith Morales and Isadora Panaloza in the semi-finals before defeating the latter’s compatriots, Cristal Meneses and Katherine Low in the final.
The latter partnership was somewhat the prize package of the event, the ousted second seeds, Ecuador’s Tania Almendariz and Daniela Andrade in the quarter-finals, before recording a semi-final victory in opposition to Brazil’s Carolina Nagano and Priscila Dias.
More Brazilian Success
Success for Brazil in the Junior Girls’ Doubles and also in the Cadet Boys’ Doubles where Hugo Calderano and Victor Ishiy emerged successful; seeded no.1 they beat El Salvador’s Julio Calderon and Erick Aviles in the semi-finals before defeating the second seeded host nation partnership of Fermin Tenti and Ariel Treplitzky.
At the penultimate stage, Fermin Tenti and Ariel Treplitzky had beaten Brazil’s Hiago Afonso and Victor Brience.
