Top seeds in the Junior Boys’ Team event at the Guatemala Junior and Cadet Open experienced few problems on the opening day of play, Wednesday August 4, 2010 but that was not the situation in the counterpart Junior Girls’ Team competition.

In the Boys’ Team competition the partnership of Mexico’s Jorge Navarro and Slovakia’s Samuel Novota progressed to the second stage of proceedings with ease, as did the second seeded El Salvadorian duo of Juan Henriquez and Luis Mejia.

Similarly for the third seeds, Guatemala’s Allan Guttierez and Gabriel Orellana it was top place in the group but they did experience some problems; principally against the El Salvador `B’.

The outfit of Erick Aviles and Julio Calderon proved to be worthy opponents.

Good Start Before Visitors Recover
The host nation made a fine start in the fixture with Allan Guttierez defeating Erick Aviles and Gabriel Orellana accounting for Julio Calderon; however, the duo from El Salvador recovered.

They won the doubles with Julio Calderon defeating Allan Guttierez to level matters; therefore the result depended on the outcome of the clash between Gabriel Orellana and Erick Aviles; the former held firm to win in four games and secure top place in the group for the hosts.

Different Story
However, in the Junior Girls’ Team event, it was quite a different story; top seeds Barbora Balazova of Slovakia in partnership with Trinidad and Tobago’s Renuka Sitram finished in third place in their group.

Predictably, Barbora Balazova remained unbeaten but the duo suffered three-two defeats against the partnership of Ecuador’s Tania Almendariz and Guatemala’s Mechael Norale before experiencing the same fate when faced with the Guatemala `B’ team outfit of Hellen Salazar and Eva Godoy.

Consolation
Hellen Salazar and Eva Godoy topped the group with Tania Almendariz and Mechael Norale in second spot; the only consolation for the top seeds was the consolation event.

Unquestionably, Barbora Balazova was a class apart but the player to catch the eye was Tania Almendariz, the only reverse she experienced was at the hands of Balazova.

Host Nation in Evidence
Meanwhile, in the counterpart group, Guatemala was to the fore.

Represented by Mabelyn Enriquez and Analdy Lopez; Guatemala `A’ concluded matters in first place without the loss of a single match finishing ahead of Guatemala `D’ for whom Amilcar Acevedo and Hosni Sandoval were on duty.

Play in the cadet team events commences on Thursday August 5, 2010.
