Over $55,000 was raised at a specially organized banquet on Sunday 6th June 2010 to support young table tennis players from the India Community Centre (ICC) situated in Milpitas, California on the west coast of the United States of America.

The India Community Centre possesses a thriving table tennis centre which is clearly going from strength to strength.

Founded in 2003 with the basic aim of promoting Indian culture, values and traditions, table tennis commenced in 2005 under the direction of Rajul Sheth.

Rapid Progress
Six table tennis tables and ten aspiring young players attended the first session five years ago, progress was quick and in 2008, new premises with a playing area of 10,500 square meters was made available.

Now there are four full-time coaches and several part-time coaches operating under the direction of Rajul Sheth with an extensive competition and training program in place.

Stars
Stars of the centre are two 14 year olds - Lily Zhang and Ariel Hsing – both now with a degree of international experience having played in the 2009 H.I.S. World Championships in Yokohama and in the more recent Liebherr World Team Championships in Moscow.

The evening on Sunday 6th June 2010 was the second such function, the first having been held in May 2009 when an impressive $50,000 was raised.

Notable Guests
Indian cuisine was on offer with Ilija Lupulesku, Men’s Doubles silver medalist at the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games and Biba Golic, both originally from the former Yugoslavia but now resident in the United States working for the Killerspin Company plus Lily Zhang, Ariel Hsing and guests being involved in table tennis exchanges.

Steve Westly (former California State Controller), Anil Godhwani (founder of the India Community Center), and Mike Cavanaugh (Chief Executive Officer of the United States Table Tennis Association, were all present for what proved to be a most enjoyable and fruitful occasion.
