Butterfly MDTTC 2010 May Open

Butterfly 2010 MDTTC May Open was held on May 1st and may 2nd weekend. Due to the scheduling conflict, our regular February and April Open were combined and postponed to May. Over 40 players from Maryland, Virginia, Washington DC, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey participated in the two days events. The top seed Raghu Nadmichettu (2341) was the winner for the Open Singles event. Unrated Mark Napartovich from Virginia was the runner up by defeating Hwee Goh (1844) in the quarter-final matches and Lixin Lang (2155) in the semi-final matches.

In the U2200 event, Lixin (2113) took the first place by defeating Hwee Goh (1844) in the final. Hwee Goh did well in his the group matches and defeated Lixin Lang in the fifth game.

Michael Clarke (1753) was the winner for Under 2050 event by defeating Reginald Sotero (1857) in the semi and Michael Ding (1721) in the final. Michael Ding defeated TJ Sawnery in the other semi-final games.

Nine years old boy Derek Nie (1556) had a good show in the Saturday’s Under 1900 event by defeating 1602 rated David Varkey in the quarter and Michael Clareke (1753) in the semi. Alan Lang (1699) took the first by defeating Derek Nie in the final.

Girls from Maryland Table Tennis had great performances in Saturday’s events, five of them had more than 170 rating points increase. Eleven years old Eileen Chen (632) had a 648 rating points increase, 9 years old Amy Lu had a 340 rating points increase and Lilly Lin had a 366 rating points increase. Two others girls, Crystal Wang and Keylee Zou had a rating points of 188 and 178 respectively.

In Under 1600 event 8 years old Crystal Wang (1013) defeated 1381 rated Rafael Portilla in the group, 1424 rated Elliott Hamilton in the quarter and Lilly Lin (883) in the semi. Lilly Lin defeated 1528 rated Raymond Chen in the quarter and she also defeated 1369 Igor Lozitskiy in her group match. Morton Greenberg took the first place by defeating Crystal Wang in the final. For Eileen Chen, this was her second tournament. In her group matches, she defeated 1366 rated Donna Rogall and 1096 rated Kaylee Zou.
In Under 1400 event, Timothy Myers (1390) took the first place by defeating Eileen Chen (632) in the final. Eileen Chen defeated Lilly Lin (883) in the quarter and Crystal Wang (1013) in the semi. Eileen also defeated 930 rated Robert Linn and 1040 rated Lisa Cui in her group matches.

The Under 1150 event was a seven people round robin. Eileen Chen (632) took the first place by defeated every one in the group including 1138 rated Donald Juran and 1027 rated Jonathan Chu. Jonathan Chu took the second.
