At no stage of the proceedings was he ever in realistic danger of defeat as he booked his passport for the Men’s Singles event at the London Olympic Games. Never did he concede more than one game and when he did, he quickly re-focused and completed matters in style.
He was in a different class to his challengers, the nearest being his compatriot Mohamadreza Alhlaghpasand, who secured the second game in their contest but then was unable to live with the champion elect.
Noshad Alamiyan is the leader of an exciting new generation of players who are taking Iran to new heights; a place in the Championship Division at the World Team Championships is the goal and it is a realistic goal.
Prior to the Liebherr World Team Championships in Moscow, they stood at no.42 on the World Team Rankings, after the conclusion of play, they were at no.34; in Dortmund later this year the goal is to win the First Division and this book a top 24 place for 2014.
Leading the charge is Noshad Alamiyan and two years hence younger brother Nima Alamiyan and the supremely talented 17 year old Seyed Pourya Omrani could well provide the line-up.
Left handed, Noshad Alamiyan is very much the Timo Boll of Iran. The style is very similar, left handed, fast attacking play with a lethal forehand being the major weapon; the rotation imparted on the ball on the first three attacks is not as severe as imparted by the German star but it is moving in that direction.
Currently, on the Under 21 World Ranking list, Noshad Alamiyan stands at no.15; a top 10 place must be the goal and that target is most realistic.
Under the leadership of Mohammed Zarepour, the President of the Iran Table Tennis Federation, Iran has made an agreement with the Werner Schlager Academy in Vienna where Richard Prause has been the guiding hand for Noshad Alamiyan; perhaps that fact to some extent explains the similarities with Timo Boll.
A likeness with Timo Boll when playing table tennis is to be applauded and most certainly Noshad Alamiyan is setting new standards for his country; he is news, good news, the talisman for Iran.
